Jenny’s notes on this recipe
Agua frescas have become super popular, even in malls. You can mix in fresh fruits and vegetables to create different flavors. Pineapple is one of the favorites, and we always make it when we go camping. You can add tequila or vodka for the adults, while the kids enjoy it on its own. I usually make big batches, filling a 5-gallon container that’s perfect for trips—it keeps the dust out and lets everyone serve it how they like. It's so refreshing and perfect for quenching thirst. My father taught me a great tip: always dissolve the sugar first, before adding any fruit or vegetables, so the natural acidity doesn’t overpower the sweetness, and you won’t have to keep adjusting the sugar.
